Community guidelines
Skein is for staying close to people who matter — newest first, private when you want, no tricks to keep you scrolling. These rules keep the space usable for everyone.
Sample accounts
Ada, Alan, Grace, and Maya are marked Demo. They are made-up so the app isn't empty. Treat them as samples, not as people to argue with. They reset every day.
Be kind
- • No harassment, threats, hate, or doxxing.
- • Disagree with ideas; don't attack people.
- • Acknowledge people when you can — a like or short reply goes further than silence.
- • Respect hide-posts, block, and private accounts.
Keep it human
- • No spam, scams, malware, or misleading link farms.
- • No impersonation of people or brands.
- • Posting too fast may pause for a bit — that's normal, not a race.
Protect privacy
- • Privacy, in one line: new posts are public until you choose followers-only or a private account.
- • Don't share others' private info without consent.
- • Followers-only posts stay among followers — don't screenshot to pile on.
- • Following shows people you follow, newest first. Discover shows everyone's public posts, newest first.
- • Lists are private to their owner. Inviting friends to Skein is fine; don't ask to see someone's lists.
- • Report posts or accounts that break these rules; we review the queue.
- • You can change your @username in Settings — old profile links keep working.
Make posts clear
- • Prefer plain language over shouty headlines.
- • When you attach a photo, add optional alt text so more people can follow along.
- • Follow people intentionally — chronological Following works best with a small, real circle.
- • Use #topics sparingly; hide a topic anytime from Discover or the topic page.
When something's wrong
We may remove a post, limit an account, or close an account that keeps breaking these guidelines. Use Report on a post or profile, or write via Feedback.
