Skein is built to stay calm about your data. Below is the full list of what we store, what we never do, and how you can export or delete everything.
Privacy, in one line: new posts are public until you choose followers-only or a private account.
Accounts marked Demo are shared samples so newcomers can look around. They reset every day and are not someone else's private account.
What Skein keeps about you
The whole list, in plain words.
- • Your account: email (used to sign in; never shown to anyone), your password stored scrambled so no one can read it, name, @username, bio, photos, and your settings (like theme, alerts, and whether like counts are hidden). If you joined from an invite link, who invited you. If you came from a launch link like ?ref=hn, just that short name (for example “hn”), so we know which posts brought people here.
- • What you do here: posts, replies, likes, reposts, follows, saved posts, lists, and the words and people you hide. Saved posts, lists, and what you hide are visible only to you.
- • Feedback notes: the note, the email if you add one, and your browser type, so we can fix what broke.
- • In your browser: one sign-in cookie, plus small notes like your theme, which tips you closed, and when you last visited (to show what's new).
What Skein doesn't do
- • No ads, no ad trackers, and no analytics scripts.
- • We don't sell or share your data.
- • We don't use what you like or read to pick posts. Feeds are newest first.
Like any website, our host keeps short technical request logs. You can download your data or delete your account anytime (sign in first if you haven't). Deleting removes your posts, replies, and follows. Feedback notes stay, without your name. Questions? Send feedback.
